All for the enjoyment of hiking, being outdoors and meeting new people. Beginners, experts, locals and new transplants are welcome. Join us in our next adventure.

Interested in cycling, but not sure where to start? Or are you
tired of going on rides by yourself? Are you intimidated by the
Lance Armstrong wannabes that are smoking past you with those tight
black bottom spandex and thick calf muscles? Well have we got the
group for you! If you are new to cycling or if you are a veteran of
cycling we invite you to gather for weekend ride/course planning,
gear talk, training tips, social outings, etc.!
Our purpose is to gear up, get on, get out, and get going, chase
the wind and have fun! Who cares if the guys are faster than us, we
just like to see their cool bike tights as they race by! Isn't that
why we're here??
We encourage you to suggest rides and events to add to the
calendar!
So come and meet new cycling friends.
Don't forget to check out our
Message
Board for the latest info.
With that said, here are some basics: RSVP so the Ride Leaders
know that you are coming and CANCEL if you change your mind.
Show up at least 15 minutes before the ride start time, if the
group is ready to depart on time they will do just that. Have a
spare tube and pump to take with you on the ride even if you don't
know how to use them.
Finally, fully read the ride descriptions! Call or email the
Ride Leader the day before the ride if you need any help with
equipment or questions about the route.
We are here to help make it fun. As always, contact any of the
Organizers directly if there are any concerns.
This group is open to anyone (beginning to advanced dancers) looking to meet new people and Salsa dance in a fun and friendly environment!
Salsa is a very social dance, enjoyed around the world. It provices the perfect opportunity to connect with all kinds of different people. Portland is lucky to have a very large, and ever growing, Salsa community. There are Salsa performers who perform and compete all over the US. There are great Salsa DJ's and local Salsa Bands. There are numerous local Salsa instructors. There are also, amazing Salsa clubs in Portland. And to top it all off, several times a year the city plays host to special Salsa weekends that are well attended by people from all over the US.
Most classes and dinner events posted here are open to all ages. Please note, however, that most dance events tend to be 21 and over (take place in night clubs with alcohol service).
This group is for single parents with regular partial or full custody in the Portland Metro area. Its an opportunity for us to meet each other, share our experiences, and have a great time. We try to meet for dinner at least once a week, and have done a number of other events including skating, zoo days, hikes, OMSI trips and theme parks.
All events are kid friendly unless otherwise marked.
We have a "sister" meetup group at http://www.meetup.com/Portland-Single-Parent-Happy-Hour-Group/ for people who would like to attend adults only events.
Check the Message Board and the Calendar often, there are always new happenings! We encourage member participation in planning and organizing events. If you have suggestions, do not hesitate to email Wendee or one of our other wonderful organizers.
ANNOUNCEMENT: We've had several instances where people aren't getting emails sent from Meetup.com. Please take a few minutes to make sure you have configured your email to allow all messages from Meetup past your spam filters so you don't miss announcements and events!
Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable human habitats, in harmony with the larger ecosystems of which they are a part. Anyone can use it: starting where they are, with what they have.
This group is a great place to learn about regenerative design, urban agriculture, animal husbandry, edible fungi, bioremediation, aquaculture, rainwater harvesting, local food systems, alternative economics, community living, soil-building, and much much more...

Seva (selfless sacrifice - Karma Yoga) is encouraged, and also to help each other prosper always, to live in abundance and absolute freedom (Kaivalya).
We are all about finding great yoga all over the greater Portland area & yoga-related activities.
During the summer gather in local parks for some outdoor yoga, as well as find adventures such as hiking, camping, etc. that we can do together as like-minded friends.
Please email me any ideas you have, and if you are a teacher, please contact me if you are interested in signing up as an event organizer and scheduling your own classes!
This group is all about YOU.

Looking for fabulous microbrews? Great company and conversation? This is your group! Portland has one of the best beer scenes on the planet! Breweries, brewers, pubs, and festivals - we bring them to YOU along with a fun, friendly, active group of beer tasting buddies. Come explore the Portland beer scene with us as we get busy enjoying the microbrews this town has to offer.
We are a diverse group of couples and singles who like to enjoy life and activities that are in the "21 and Over" category; whether it's for now, forever, or just for one night while the babysitter is at home. Our members run in age from mid-20's through late 40's. We're all about having fun around Portland, making new friends, and enjoying life to its fullest.
Rather than plan meetups around a specific theme, we try to schedule many different kinds of events, so there is always something for everyone. We are always open to suggestions from anyone who has an idea for a meetup, and we're always looking for assistant organizers to help plan events.
You can take a look at our past meetups to see what we've been up to, or come out to our next event to connect with others and sample what our lovely city has to offer.
Meet nearby boardgame game players! Come to one of our events to discover new games or play old favorites with new friends.
We mainly play eurogames but also enjoy card games, party games and classic board games.
We are a new social group for friendship, networking, adventure and dining in the PDX metro area! Our emphasis is on cultural, active, innovative experiences. Our Meetups span indoor and outdoor activities, as well as daytime and nighttime events. We are not designed to be a singles group though I think both singles and couples would feel equally at home :) We also are not full time organizers but will do our best to post at least a few events per month.
Among other activities, we will be visiting new and interesting restaurants. I thought it might be fun if we published our group's restaurant reviews at sites such as citysearch.portland.com and urbanspoon.com. From luxe gourmet to homey comfort food, we want to try it all! We'll schedule a few walks in some of our beautiful city parks to walk it off :)
We will also be giving back to the community by hosting periodic benefits for local animal welfare and food bank charities.
Questions on RSVPs, fees (none) etc? Take a moment to visit our "About" page (link at upper left.)
Let's socialize and energize through shared interests and new experiences while exploring the City of Roses! :) I also want to encourage everyone to use the message board when you hear of interesting events! Your post might help a member get out for something fun they hadn't heard about. Meetup's message boards are underutilized and are a great alternative to long email threads :)
We are the fastest growing and most active premiere foodie group in town. Offering diverse restaurant choices (almost daily), fun social events and access to some of the exclusive foodie events in town.
Run by dedicated, passionate and fun group of organizers, who care deeply about local foodie community, artisan cooking, promoting local businesses and entrepreneurs by sharing table with like minded culinary explorers. We deliver consistent and well formatted events that share strict emphasis on respecting the food, venue and other members by following common etiquette.
Trust me, this by far the best way to enjoy the food scene in Portland and connect with like minded people in the community. We live in such privilege city for foodies and I hope to share this experience with you all, so please check us out on past and current event postings on our calendar and sign up for free monthly "new foodie member event" to come see for yourself.
Please read following group message and policy regarding joining and being the member of this fun group.

Ciao,
Kevin
This is an informal group of knitters who get together once a month. It's a great way to meet new folks, chat, and 'have a knit'! All levels are welcome!
I decided to start this group because the older I get, the more difficult it is to create new friendships with quality people. I'm a single working professional who would like to meet the same and have great times doing it.
The purpose of this group is to increase your social circle by attending fun activities with like minded people. Whether you're new to the area, or are a native and just find yourself in a situation where you would like to meet new people you can relate to, this group may be for you. Single professional parents are encouraged to join as well. I am very open to meetup ideas, so please share. Some activities planned: Happy hours, cosmic bowling, wine tastings and tours, dinners, billiards, comedy shows, festivals. When the weather gets warmer: BBQs, picnics, hikes, walks etc. So join us! Oh....I've had several people ask me about the age restrictions...if you're a few years older or younger, that's ok, it's more of a guideline and a state of mind!
We occasionally have fixed RSVP activities. Please view our "No flake" policy on these events. Here's the link. http://www.meetup.com/The-Professional-Singles-Group-ages-35-45/messages/boards/thread/9246897/
********We reserve the right to disallow anyone from the group for poor behavior, posting propaganda or advertising for personal gain, repeated "no shows" and "flaking", etc..***********
The goal of our group is to explore and experience the unique culture of Portland and the northwest. What makes us different is that we are very active with at least 20 events on the calendar per month. Most of the events are done on foot, but some are simply showing up at a particular destination for fun. Events include:
Dining and entertainment walks (highlighting great restaurants, happy hours, wine tastings and entertainment opportunities in the Portland area).
Narrated walking tours of Portland's neighborhoods (including inside tours of factories or other local businesses)
Meet the chef dinners (where we get the chance to talk to the chef about what makes their style unique)
Fitness walks
Random fun activities thrown in (Acrobatics class, Trampoline, Laser Tag, Scavenger hunts)
Day trips to explore nearby towns and activities available around Portland
And the best part is that you get to do all these events with other people who enjoy getting out as much as you do. Think of it as an "act locally" approach to tourism. About half the people at every event are new to the group, so you have the chance to build friendships with the regulars and experience the variety of newcomers.
Explanation of fees:
$5 to drop in on a single event.
$10 for all events in a one month period (from the date you pay)
Fees cover the cost of planning and providing over 20 guided events per month. Fees do not include admission to venues, which will be stated in the event posting.
I think if you compare this to a $20 monthly gym membership or guided tour, you will find that it is still an exceptional value. Plus there's no commitment to continuing your membership and there's no fee to belong to the group. You only pay if you attend events.
Example of monthly payment: If you come to your first event on the 22nd of a given month,
your monthly membership fee is good until the 22nd of the next month.
Special offer: Only interested in evening fitness walks? If you pay for any event within 30 days of a fitness walk, you can attend that walk for free. You can take advantage of that by going on any fitness walk and paying $5 for the first one. For the next 30 days, all the fitness walks are free!
These walks are all labeled "Evening Walk" in the event calendar.
Personal Tours:
Do you have family or friends visiting or just want to do a tour with a small group? I can help show off Portland through a personalized walking tour, or I can help you to plan a fun itinerary. Just contact me through the "Contact us" button on the left.
We are single parents who would like to meet other single parents for adult interaction and socializing. This group will host: *Casual happy hours *Singles focused events *Outdoor activities *Themed parties *Mix and Mingle get-togethers *Wine tasting *Speed dating events The goal is to have a fun and friendly group for adult socializing that is inclusive of all single parents. Meet others who "get it" when it comes to being a single parent. Are you looking for a meetup group for single parents with family activities? The http://www.meetup.com/Portland-Single-Parents is where it's at! Please check out our policies as well http://www.meetup.com/Portland-Single-Parent-Happy-Hour-Group/pages/Policies/

First Saturday Network is a local gathering of gays and lesbians seeking a connection to the community.
This is not a dating or hookup service - it's much better. This is a group where gay and lesbians can meet, make friends, network, and develop relationships. Socialize, expand your personal and professional networks, and build friendships with other gay and lesbians. Social mixers, dining out, testing new restaurants, happy-hours and lots of laughter for all the members to enjoy in a relaxed casual atmosphere. Discussions with like-minded individuals about anything from coming out, to politics, to sports, to careers!
Setup like a book club, we select one movie and meet to watch and then discuss the film. We prefer a variety of new and old films; which means we will meet at movie theaters, private homes and special locations for screenings. The group meets at predetermined location for a particular film. Come to one or come to them all. There is no requirement to attend all meetings. Movies and views are diverse. It is always a great time to meet new people and to simply get to 'see' Portland in its finest. The real enjoyment in the group is being able to sit around a few tables to chat about the films we have watched together and learn the incredible truth of differing and diverse opinions. Many of our discussions help others decide on whether they want to watch a movie or not. Join us for what is usually a pleasant and laughable time.
This is a companion Meetup group to Portland Metro Urban Hikers. PMU Hikers centers on hikes in the Portland Oregon Metro Urban area. Weekend Ventures will focus on trips that are perhaps longer, more strenuous, further away or require a greater commitment of time. In the Weekend Ventures Meetup group we move beyond the boundaries of the Portland Metro area and into the hills, valleys and beaches surrounding us. Most events will leave from a central carpool rendezvous point and, for some, scheduled transportation may also be an option. There will be less frequent activities here, probably about once per month, but you are encourage to join us as we explore beyond the limits of the metro area and enjoy the bounty of nature all around us.
Meet fellow Wine Enthusiasts near you!

Welcome to the Portland International Adventure Travel Club!
Simply put, this group is for people who want to make friends and travel the world.
The group tries to Meetup locally in the Portland area to bring adventurous people together to talk about where weve been and where we dream of going with the ultimate goal of traveling to amazing and adventurous places around the world with a group of other liked-minded people (see our events).
As much as we are looking to find other adventurous people to travel with, we love getting together face to face with members from our community to visit local restaurants, grab a social drink together in one of the local bars or maybe even a hike or a walk at a local park.
So come join us and live the adventurous life youve always dreamed of.
We invite you to join our community of secular humanists and other people who love life and reason. Here, you can exchange ideas and experiences, make new friends and contribute to positive change. We also have a vibrant community of families where parents can find support in raising children well without religion.
CFI Portland is an educational nonprofit organization whose mission it is to foster a secular society based on science, reason, free inquiry, and humanist values. We seek to present affirmative, rational ethical alternatives to the reigning paranormal and religious systems of belief. We promote critical thinking and humanist values through education, outreach and social services.
Check out our regular social and educational programs and our sponsored groups, the Secular Family Network ( http://www.meetup.com/cfi-sfn/), where secular families can find community and humanistic education, the Beaverton Atheist Meetup ( http://www.meetup.com/cfi-bam/) on the west side of town, the Secular Humanists of East Portland ( http://www.meetup.com/cfi-shep/) on the east side of town, the Vancouver Skeptics ( http://www.meetup.com/cfi-vsm/) just north of Portland, all of which provide a casual atmosphere where non-believers can enjoy each other's company. We have additional satellite groups outside of Portland in Eugene, Coos Bay, and Grants Pass.
Join us in our monthly "Food for Thought" meetup at the Multnomah Arts Center in SW Portland, in which we gather on a Friday evening to enjoy a guest lecturer, followed by a family-friendly community dinner.

An informal, friendly group of Pagans of all paths who meet for socialising, laughing, sharing of information, and networking. Our group's purpose is to create community.
This is the original Portland Pagan Meetup that has been meeting in person at least once a month for 9 years. We are not in any way affiliated with the so-called "Portland Area Pagan and Witches Network," which is only a calendar, based in San Diego, and of questionable intent.
We're at a place in our lives where we want play hard and have FUNNN. We're about making new acquaintances, some of which may evolve into true friendships. Both singles and those with partners are part of our group
Since age is generally a state of mind anyway, if you're heading toward fifty or over, it really doesn't matter.
If you have a partner who also wants to participate, each person should become a member since some of our events do not include guests.
You'll find our group welcoming and inclusive, we promote a culture of consideration and kindness.
Our events are a mixture of activities based on member's interests. It's a platform for each member to share activities they enjoy or would like to try out. If you have an event idea you'd like to put on our calendar, send me an email and we'll put you down as an event planner so you can post and host that activity.
We request a one time $11 contribution from our members. Part of the reason for the charge is to ensure that when people join its not on impulse and that they plan to regularly do activities with us and fully participate; the other is to cover the cost of the web site, name tags and room rentals for some upcoming social gatherings. If 30 days after joining, you want to leave the group, we'll refund in full less any paypal or amazon fees.
If you have an activity you'd like to see on our calendar and are willing to post and host, please let me know.

Meet other locals interested in learning more about facets of sacred sexuality, especially Tantra, an ancient but contemporary approach to spirituality based on Hindu and Buddhist teachings, integrating body, mind, spirit and heart.
We are currently open to members who are serious seekers as well as those interested in teaching. We have a variety of people who facilitate, and each meeting provides new opportunities to learn, breathe, and connect. Email us if you have any questions about Tantra or our growing community!
You are invited to post blogs, comments, questions, and concerns on the Message Board. If you are seeking a practice partner or to form a small practice group, this is a great place to reach out.
Please feel free to suggest a meetup, it can be anything from, a study group, a group outing, or a pot luck at your house. Suggest it, and if two more people sign up, it's a meetup.

This group is here for all wine drinkers that enjoy trying the different wines and regions of Oregon and those around the world, and want to explore and expand their palates, their wine experience, and meet others like you!
This is OUR group, so I welcome any and all comments, suggestions, advice! My goal is to do a wine tour once every few months and find smaller venues to enjoy the rest of the time. I want to try things others haven't done before so we don't get bored and go "oh, just another wine group". That is why I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, because everyone has a good idea just waiting to be heard!
We work to create opportunities for pleasant relationships over nice meals. We don't plan budget dinners, we suggest restaurants we think at least some will enjoy. We each vote with our RSVP's whether a dining out experience fits our schedule, our budget, and how far we desire to travel to dine out.
If you'd like to suggest a venue, or help plan a dinner please email Joanne the Organizer.
We're planning social events, & are not responsible for how safe, timely or tasty the dinners are. Changes may occur & restaurants haven't consented to their listing here.
Bring cash: most places won't split checks & an 18% gratuity is usually required of groups.
Happy dining,
Joanne
Our mission with I Take The Lead is to help you build your business by generating professional business leads and referral systems. We provide workshops and seminars for business and personal development, business networking tips and techniques.
We are devoted to starting leads groups, and promoting measurable results. Members become business referral sources for each other. As businesses increase their sales revenue through the weekly exchange of leads, they are encouraged to build solid business alliances with other group members.
We offer 2 types of leads groups: B2C (the normal type of leads group) or B2B (for those whose customers are other businesses; you must qualify for B2B).
For more information, PLEASE check out www.iTakeTheLead.com, especially the Why We're Different tab!!
By the way, don't be discouraged if you see only one or two people signed up for one of our events on Meetup.
We normally expect AT LEAST 20-30 people at ALL of our special guest speaker meetings!!!
An informal, friendly group of Witches of many different traditions, gathering for networking, laughs, sharing of information, bad puns, and occasionally, duck-shaped zucchini.
As friendly as we are, we are not doormats, and I must add this: This is the original Portland Witches Meetup that has been meeting in person several times a month for 9 years. We are not in any way affiliated with the so-called "Portland Area Pagan and Witches Network," which is only a calendar, based in San Diego, and of questionable intent.
This group is designed to keep a regular weekly pickup game going in Portland. Look here for information about places, dates and times to play, and feel free to add your own recommendations. As the weather turns nicer, we will look to add a weeknight game as well. But that's not all! We'd also like to create a group of fans of international soccer (La Liga from Spain, the Premier League from England, etc.) who would like to meet at a restaurant or bar to watch the games and - why not? - make new friends. Last but not least, there is talk of organizing an indoor team for next fall and winter, comprised of players from the meetup group. So? Are you in?
Are you new to Portland? The Portland Relo(cation) Club is for women who have relocated to Portland from other places. The purpose of this club is to offer fun, friendly and welcoming activities for newcomers to meet new people, make friends and explore Portland.
What is this meetup about? Monthly industry cocktail party and networking event. End of month rush is over. Join other real estate professionals for drinks and networking on the last Friday of every month. Light hors d'oeurves served.
Who might be interested in attending? Realtors, appraisers, lenders, title, escrow officers, insurance agents, account executives, developers and other professionals interested in socializing.
Why would you want to attend? Get to know other professionals in the industry, learn about what's going on and just take a breather before the next month's rush begins!
For the organizers of this Meetup, Glass Half Full is more than just the status of our drink glasses or a simple phrase - it is how we live our lives. There is always more to see and do in the world, more to learn, more friends to meet and more fun to be had. We always leave room for a little more, which is why we created the group Glass Half Full. Meetup has allowed us to make some amazing friends, learn more about the world and ourselves all while having a great time and we want to ensure that others have that same experience.
We will have a variety of events: movies, sports, dinners, hikes, volunteering, happy hour, wine tasting, etc. The events will range in size to allow for a variety of interactions.
Some of our events have limited capacity and are called out as Fixed RSVP events. Please review our policy for these types of events: http://www.meetup.com/glass-half-fullx2/boards/thread/798...
WEEKLY QUOTE: Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead. -- Chinese Proverb
We're a casual group of Portland/Vancouver area amateur musicians who get together to jam, make music, and have a laugh. We foster a relaxed, comfortable, and supportive environment, where everybody gets a chance to participate. If you're curious as to the sorts of experience you can expect at one of our events, you can check out our Youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/PortlandCasualJams . We tend to schedule one large-group meeting per month, at a venue which can hold large numbers of musicians, where we like to include all level of musicians, and every different musical style. Other, smaller jam sessions are set up by group members, depending on their personal tastes and preferences, and there is a decent suite of online scheduling tools available to those members who wish to set up their own events and coordinate with other members. Check out our calendar page for some of our scheduled events! Some of our members are semi-professional, some are just starting out, but everybody is welcome. Some of our members are active in the local Open Mike scene, and some are excellent resources when it comes to sources of other types of jam sessions. Here's looking forward to some great music!
Become ONE with the RHYTHM 'n BEAT of the DRUM!
Find your pulse and align yourself with the Universal Beat
Just open your Heart and move your feet
Give up your worries and surrender to the drum
Let your hair down and have some Fun
Sway to the rhythms of that old Earth vibration
And come together as ONE through Heartbeat Drum Nation.
If you reading this, you are already a drummer. That's because you have a beating heart inside you. If you can talk, you can drum. If you can walk, you can dance. You need be neither a drummer nor a dancer to come. You can just come and watch. Some drums will be provided but please bring your own. Feel free to bring other instruments as well.
Most important, bring your unique essence and spirit. YOU are what makes this drum/dance circle come alive!
Drumming is FUN, but it is also healing MEDICINE. A drum jam spells P-A-R-T-Y, but it is also a SHAMANIC ritual. Our drum/dance circle is a truly sacred space. It is a transformational gathering. So please come with reverence for yourself and for all others at the circle. That said, loosen up -- and LET GO!
Join us in dance, meditation, and rhythmic FUN!
Meetup locally with other people who like to cook. Trade recipes, tips, ideas, cookbooks, and discuss all the magic in the kitchen! We will also incorporate wine and occasional dining out at some great locally chef-owned restaurants too! You don't need to be a chef or a "great" cook to join the group.....just someone (or a couple) that loves food and creating in the kitchen!
Because many of these events will be taking place in private homes, I ask that all members post a photo(s) of themself for everyones comfort and security. In order to attend an event, a photo must be posted prior to the meeting. Thank you for understanding!

Whether you are interested in building, buying, or renovating, this group aims to educate themselves about techniques for making and keeping Portland the leader of sustainable living, high efficiency home construction, remodels, and eco-friendly home and garden ideas.
For over 3 years we have been meeting monthly to take home or business tours that teach us more about green building strategies in person. If you are interested in eco-roofs, solar panel construction, geothermal heating and cooling, recycled building materials, or naturescaping, we are constantly working together to learn about the best products and resources available in Portland.
Please join us if you want to learn more, or have knowledge to share!
Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) bans or restricts dogs based solely on their appearance due to the idea that these dogs are dangerous. When a breed ban is enacted, any dog that looks like the targeted breed is removed from the home and likely euthanized. BSL does not take into account the actions, behavior, or history of the dog, it only considers the physical appearance of the dog.
BSL is not only unfair and unethical, it is also ineffective. BSL fails to increase public safety because it does not address the real issue of owner irresponsibility. Further, BSL ignores the victims of dog bites by any dogs that do not look like the targeted breed.
It is important to note that BSL comes in many guises, from outright bans to other discriminatory actions such as requirements for liability insurance, expensive licenses and other types of restrictions based on breed or appearance.
Any legislation that singles out "pit bulls" is misguided, unfair and unacceptable.
One of the most obvious flaws of BSL is that it requires dogs to be identified by breed based on appearance, which is impossible to do accurately or objectively. In the end, BSL invariably punishes responsible dog owners, as they are the ones most likely to comply with the law. It is also important to note that every single canine welfare organization is against breed specific legislation.
Italy's ban started with a handful of breeds, yet grew to include over 90 different dog breeds at one point. Clearly, breed bans dont work. Further, BSL can lead to destroying the human-canine bond entirely. The focus should be on demanding responsible ownership of ALL dogs.
Even people who don't particularly care for dogs need to realize that breed specific legislation doesn't increase safety. It isn't just that BSL is unfair, it's that BSL DOESN'T WORK.

Tennis is a year round sport. not just a seasonal sport. We want our players to develop a passion for the game YEAR ROUND, regardless of skill level. We want our players to "walk the talk" 12 months out of the year. If you are among those who share the passion and want to help grow this sport, then you need to join us. everyone here who joins must have a desire to play. you eat drink and sleep tennis. you must also be able to participate in mixers, leagues and tournaments whenever there are any 12 months out of the year and not just during the summer. call a fellow member and invite them to hit the fuzzy yellow ball indoors or out, hot or cold weather, rain or shine regardless of the circumstances. The term "I used to play ....." is not acceptable. get out to the court and make an effort. sorry for the long intro, but you get the point.
Meet other young singles near you. Come to a Meetup for a low pressure way to meet local singles for fun, friendship...and maybe more!
We'll be doing a range of activities from Happy Hours, Hikes, Movies, Dinners, Wine Tastings, Festivals, Speed Dating and whatever else strikes our fancy. Many of our members complete a profile including a dating code that helps determine basic compatibility between our members.
We have a minimum of one Meetup per month. However, often we hold 3-4 events a month. Anyone single person ages 23 - 35 is welcome!
Like to see live music? But maybe you're new in town or your tastes run wider than your friends? Join us to catch some great live music in Portland. We like indie rock and pop bands that are doing something new, and we'd like to meet up with others who love new music.
We'll be picking out live shows at local venues, and trying to encourage a bit of social interaction before the shows, to build up some community. Our tastes are pretty broad, so shows may range from indie pop to funk/R&B, world music to basic rock & roll. We'll try to provide some links so you can hear a sample of each artist, but of course everyone's taste differs, so it's up to you to pick something that appeals. Some venues that will feature here include Mississippi Studios, the Doug Fir Lounge, the Aladdin Theater, and plenty more.
The Ground Rules: these are obviously public events, and we are not buying tickets for meetup members in advance - you're on your own to get an advance ticket if that seems necessary (covers at the door are usually in the $5 - $15 range). We'll try to set up a place to meet in advance of the show, to have a drink and chat a bit - since that's always a bit hard once the music starts. Most events will tend toward weekends, but some will surely land on other nights - pick the shows you'd like to attend!
We try to choose a variety of local acts as meetup events. But we may not hit everybody's favorites. So if you know of an act you think people would like to hear, bring it up as an Idea. And if there are several people who show interest, then one of your organizers will create an event. Better yet, offer to become a co-organizer and host it yourself. All it takes is setting up a meeting place and time at the venue, and getting to the show early as the host.
In addition to regular meetups with RSVPs, etc, we'll add 'Notes' on the calendar for other shows or discussions about local bands that may be of interest to this group.
And if you have a minute or two, answer the Poll questions to help guide future selections. Thanks!
Spring is springing and it's time to head out for some breakfast! -April 27, 2011
August 26, 2010
Dear breakfast lovers,
The times, they are a' changing! The founder of the PDX Breakfast Club, Mindie Kniss, has returned to her beloved town of Chicago and I have been promoted from Assistant Organizer to Organizer. Thanks, Mindie!
The PDX Breakfast Club is not broken so I won't try to fix it! If you have any ideas or suggestions, or are interested in becoming an Assistant Organizer so you can schedule some meetups because you don't see the ones you want, send me a message!
Robin Healy
Mindie's original description:
I love breakfast. If you do too, you've come to the right place. With a nod to John Hughes, I propose we start a Breakfast Club.
We'll meet around town, on various days and at varying times to accommodate different schedules.
I can't wait to meet you all over a steaming cup of coffee, a bowl of oatmeal, or a savory plate of bacon, eggs and hashbrowns.
Join us for breakfast! =)
Email me if you have a suggestion or are interested in becoming an assistant organizer.

If you own an English Bulldog, you've found one of the largest play/support groups for the breed and their parents (that's you!). We meet to socialize our bullies and discuss health, behavioral and other support issues. Mostly the dogs just play. However, if you are facing some behavioral or health problems, it's most likely that one of our members is going or went through similiar issues you face. As a member, you can draw from the vast experiences of our membership.
Each meetup is a little different, but attended by many. Weather permitting, we meet the second Saturday of each month on the left side of Normandale park, as well as the fourth Sunday of the month at Hondo Park in Hillsboro. Be prepared to let your dog play!
TIPS FOR MEMBERS:
1. If it's hot or cold, bring a water dish with lots water.
2. Don't forget the clean-up bags.
3. A clean bully is a happy bullly, so bring some wet naps.
4. Walk around and encourage your dog to get active and play. Sometimes when parents sit at one place, the bully doesn't want to leave your side.
5. Don't trap your dog. (if every dog in the park is off their leash except your dog, and your dog gets in the middle of all these dogs, you can create stress and actually be encouraging a confrontation. If you are going to keep your leashed dog in the park, attempt to stay away from the pack.) Select one or two dogs to introduce your bully too, or better yet, when appropriate, let your dog off the leash to play with the other dogs.
6. Bring a camera and post your photos. We all love to see bullies in photos!
7. Don't forget to bring some treats, but remember, if you give it to your bully, others may want some too!
8. Have fun!
EXTRA CARE:
1. Keep your dog home if the bulldog is sick, has open wounds, was recently operated on or does not have proper shots. Your vet should determine when its appropriate for your dog to socialize and come to the group.
2. Also, for young puppies, we recommend that you keep care. Altough, most members have the correct shots and vacinations, other dogs at the public park may not.
3. AGRESSIVE DOG OWNERS: If your dog doesn't play well with others, leave them at home. Or better yet, work with a trainer to improve their social skills. We hate to discourage any owners, but safety at our meetups is paramount.

"In wildness is the preservation of the world." ~Henry David Thoreau
Would you like to be part of a community of outdoorsy folks who are interested in experiencing life in the purest form...by being a part of nature? Do you love the challenge posed by overcoming some of nature's obstacles, seeing as much as you can, and learning the most about the place you consider home, the Pacific Northwest? Do you feel that in addition to putting miles in on the trail and covering some ground, there is more to the experience of being outdoors than that?
Well that is the intent with the Wild Mind Outdoor Community . Although inherently a social group due to the nature of Meetup, the focus will be more on EXPERIENCING the outdoors together and being social while doing it. We will be hiking, backpacking, animal tracking, and working on skills like plant identification and wilderness survival. Some of us may also participate in more mindful events intended to clear the mind and open our eyes.
What does having a Wild Mind mean?
Gary Snyder, an American poet, Zen Buddhist, mountaineer, environmental activist, deep ecology philosopher, and founding member of the Beat Generation, says:
"It means self-organizing. It means elegantly self-disciplined, self-regulating, self-maintained. That's what wilderness is. Nobody has to do the management plan for it. So I say to people, 'let's trust in the self-disciplined elegance of wild mind.' Practically speaking, a life that is vowed to simplicity, appropriate boldness, good humor, gratitude, unstinting work and play, and lots of walking, brings us close to the actually existing world and its wholeness."
We seek to have that life of simplicity, appropriate boldness, good humor, and gratitude, to become closer to the existing world and its wholeness, YET we work our desk jobs 9-5, 5 days a week and filling our lives with clutter that may not really matter. While not able to live as simply and wholly as we would like, we would like for this group to provide an outlet to those seeking to having a Wild Mind in whatever way we can. We come from all walks of life, political affiliations, religions, sexual orientations. We are bankers and artists, baristas and academics, and seek to share one common thread, an appreciation for our awesome backyard.
We are guided by the following values:
1) We have a deep and abiding respect for the natural world. We obey all laws and regulation regarding the use and respect of the areas we visit, such as wilderness regulations. We are committed to "Leave No Trace" principles.
2) We are inclusive. Everyone is welcome at our events, who shares our respect for community and the natural award. During our events we will respect other's beliefs, persons and feelings.
3) We value safety. Everyone involved in our events will have the proper ability, experience and equipment to safely particpate.
4) We are dedicated to connecting our individual spiritual experiences to nature. Many of our events will have this as an
expressed theme. Our members come from a variety of faiths and backgrounds, and we
respect all of them equally.
We hope you'll join us and look forward to seeing you on the trails…
Meet other single professionals near you! Have you ever tried speed dating?? Experience the very functional 6-minute speed dating sessions. (As shown the movies Hitch, 40 Year Old Virgin, and TV shows Sex & the City, Oprah, Today, Jay Leno)
Events are based on the incredibly hot, new, & exciting way for singles to meet other singles. Rather than wasting time hanging out in a bar or going on long uncomfortable blind dates, we give single professionals the ability to meet up to twelve eligible singles with, 6-minute "Pre-Dates" -- all in one fun evening.
Speed dating parties are held at local upscale restaurants. Guests register online and then check in the night of the party and receive numbered nametags, special scorecards and seat assignments at one of many tables for two.
After some refreshments and mingling, party hosts get the dating started by ringing a bell. After each six-minute date, couples mark their scorecards with a "Let's Talk" or "No Thanks", noting whom they would like to hear from again. Each bell ringing signals a move to the next date, men move up the row of tables until the final date is complete.
Each month you will see various age groups posted, from twenties to sixties.
Other single events are in the works so let us know what other types of social events you are interested in!
PLEASE make sure to read the "PAGES" tab, lot's of useful information before you speed date.
Unlike some competition, these events are private. Meaning they will either be held at an establishment that is closed to the public during the speed dating event, or will be held in a separate area from the general public on a slow night. We know people sometimes come a little nervous when they first speed date, and we want the experience to be as comfortable and fun as possible without outside distractions, this is not a spectator sport after all.
We are not affiliated in any way with the other speed dating meetups. Don't look at the fact that this is not yet a big group compared to competitors. We have been around for many years, but only began meetup end of February this year. What counts is who comes to the events, and these events are promoted in a variety of places beyond just meetup.
If you are in Portland and have questions, please contact Betsy. Matt is soley the organizer for Seattle.
Although photo's are not a requirement to be in this group, they do make it easier for people to put a face with the name and personality. It's a friendlier and more personal approach than a black box :)
The Portland Hispanic Professionals Network brings us together and helps you create those key personal connections!
It was founded with the purpose of providing a venue where Hispanics from all professional backgrounds come together to meet like minded individuals from similar cultures, form social bonds and help each other develop in their carriers.
Gatherings are once a month at a local hot spot. At each one of them we feature members and also organizations that have something special to share with us. We occasionally share job opportunities, get involved with the hispanic community and welcome new members who have recently moved to town.
There is no membership fee of any kind involved for members, it is all about complementing and supporting each other while getting to know one another in a comfortable, social and informal setting. We make new friends and grow our networks.
So if you are a member and have something to offer to the group like promoting your business or service we have a microphone at each meeting you may make use of, simply check in with Cristina either by email or at the beginning of the event.
If you would like to sponsor one of our events simply email Cristina Calderon to arrange a meeting.

Do you love to sew? Or are you just learning? There's no better way to improve than with a like-minded, friendly bunch of fellow stitchers!
We meet about 3 times a month, Saturday afternoons and weekday evenings, in the close-in SE, Woodstock, and Tigard. There is a donation requested for some meetings ($2-$10) while others are free - and it's free to join.
We sew together, fit together, trace and cut out patterns together. There is always loads of experience and knowledge available, but we're joining together for community, not as a "class". You'll learn a lot, but in a relaxed, organic way, always working on your own individual project.
Beginners are more than welcome, so don't sweat it if you don't even know how to thread a machine. A supportive group is the best way to learn!

We are world travelers who are passionate about cultural exchange, global adventure, life-changing experiences, unforgettable personal stories, and savvy travel on a budget. If you're as addicted to global travel as we are or are interested in embarking on the life long adventure that we embrace as essential to our existence, you'll enjoy this group. Sponsored by the volunteers of the local non-profit branch of Hostelling International, we have exciting travel programs going on constantly throughout Portland. Join us for one of our innumerable programs or just relax on a social outing and share travel tips and stories with fellow adventures.
Purpose: To be able to meet with other Portlanders that are addicted to travel. Others just don't understand.
Why join?: Free Beer and a chance to meet like minded folks.
Who?: Folks that are seriously into travel. Not traveling makes you a bit anxious, and some of the best experiences in your life had travel as a part of it.
If you are single, aware that you are in the exciting phase of the second half of your life, and craving good friends, this group could be a perfect fit.
In Good Company is designed for those men and women wanting to be a part of a community of like-minded, positive, people who enjoy a variety of activities. Do you enjoy summer concerts, meeting for dinners, or attending plays? Do you enjoy hiking, supporting environmental causes, or exploring venues for dance, music, the arts? The possibilities for activities are endless and suggestions are always appreciated!
Being a mid-life single is not always easy, but it can be a great time for reflection, sharing, and exploring possibilities that may not have presented themselves earlier in your life. If you realize that life is not all about finding a partner for the perfect relationship and is really about cultivating more self-love and a passion for life then you'll fit right in! This is not a group where hooking up or finding your perfect partner is the focus..hey, anything is possible, but it's definitely not the focus; a safe and fun environment is a priority :) Relaxing, enjoying yourself and making friends and/or connections will be the key elements of this group...and as I said, who knows where this could lead you!
I would absolutely love to have some assistance with this group, so if you have an inclination, please feel free to shoot me a message. And, as in my last group, and as mentioned above, suggestions for events are always encouraged. From time to time I will also post other Meetup activities from groups I feel may be of benefit to you. These will be groups/activities that I've personally checked out and can vouch for. Are you ready to explore new possibilities and make some wonderful connections? I hope you'll join us; I promise you that you'll be "In Good Company!"

The Creative Social Club supports the local creative community by promoting social connections, enjoyment, and learning across all creative disciplines, and is open to (a) professionals in the creative industries, (b) people who aspire to make their mark in the creative industries, and (c) people who just thoroughly appreciate the fruits of human creativity and enjoy being with others who share the same passion. We welcome print, web and interactive designers and animators; film and broadcast professionals; producers, directors, and other creative talent; writers, illustrators, photographers, videographers, editors, publishers, agents, creative accountants, project or print managers of all types; and creative, social members of the general public.
Our objectives are to (a) socialize and have a great time, (b) connect with other creative types, (c) have a forum for learning about creative endeavors, access to local events and related topics, and (d) possibly even put together events showcasing our own creative talents. There will always be two standing orders for this group: Be Creative. Be Social.
Welcome back..!
As I'm sure you have noticed by now, this meetup group is no longer under the sponsorship of Get Fit Live Fit Running Programs. The past year has seen a decline in interest in this group as less people are meeting up which is not what this network was built for. I am not affiliated with any company or gym. I am just a regular Oregonian who wants to run and wants to meet people who feel the same way. We are one of the largest meetup groups for running in the Portland area. Taking the initiative of taking over as organizer for this large group was an easy choice.
When you don't feel like running alone, we can meet in predesignated locations to run together. This is your group, we are always open to suggestions and discovery here in Portland. Together we will watch, observe, follow, and help each other stay motivated. All are welcome... please get involved.
I hope to meetup soon,
-HTC

It is our intent to provide relaxed and non-pressured monthly Gatherings for the Portland Metro business community The focus and primiary goals of our Events are:
CREATE AND MAINTAIN AN ENCOURAGING AND MOTIVATIONAL ATMOSPHERE
Our monthly Gatherings are primarily about relaxed mingling . As we celebrated our 3rd anniversary in November, we were excited to enhance our Member's experience by occasionally inviting vital Business leaders and speakers to give short updates on the Economic climate of Portland, along with offering introductions to opportunities for Portland Business owners and thier Employees.
DEVELOP LASTING, DIVERSE BUSINESS AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
We encourage our Members to host social events outside of our normal monthly gathering. Along with the original Members, we continue to have a number of new Professionals participate in the Gatherings and Social Events. ENHANCE YOUR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
We welcome a variety of Professionals including those who are not marketing a product or service. In addition, those who are trying to expand their business by making connections are certainly welcome as well! We have been privileged to have had Nurses, Teachers, HR Managers, Retired individuals, and more enhance our Events. For those who are trying to expand their business we have opportunities available....
We are pleased to provide a platform that enables you to experience a relaxed yet productive Evening in our private room with the benefit of Happy Hour food and beverages. Your success depends on expanding your opportunities by reconnecting with Members, in addition to attending the Monthly Events when you can.

About me,... I've been following to the Abraham material since 1996/97. Once I heard the philosophy it rang clearer then anything I'd ever heard and fell in love with the words spoken. As Abraham would put it, 'thrill bumps ran through my body' when I first heard the truth of the words and continues to do so to this day.
I've attended two workshops with Jerry and Ester, in Philadelphia and NY and spoke with them once, in the hot seat ;) All ideas welcome. Please pass your desires or requests on to me, if I can oblige I will for I have many ideas. Happy deliberate creating

Just follow the safety rules, be courteous, show up for rides you responded "yes" to, and have fun.

"A startup is a human institution designed to deliver a product or service in conditions of extreme uncertainty" (Eric Ries)
The number one reason that Startups fail is lack of customers (~90%), not product development failure (~10%). The Lean Startup is an approach that attempts to acknowledge this and create startup success.
We are PDX startup entrepreneurs who are passionate about developing customers and markets for our products in a disciplined, iterative, and measured way.
We are not a general entrepreneurship or professional meeting group.
We share our thoughts and experiences with the application of Customer Development, Lean Thinking, Lean/Agile Software Development, Open Source Software, and Cloud Computing as it applies to startups and new products.

Need a place to talk and learn more about life with an adult with Asperger Syndrome? Not a therapy group, but a place to learn from others and to share your story about the often frustrating and isolating life of loving an adult with Asperger Syndrome.
Kathy Marshack, Ph.D. and author of "Going Over the Edge?" (2009) is your organizer, but by no means the leader of this group. This meetup is a forum for all of us to learn more, through books, films and guest speakers.
Starting with "Going over the Edge?" we discuss books on the subject of Asperger Syndrome, particularly those geared toward relationships with adults on the Autism Spectrum. Periodically a good film such as "Mozart and the Whale" creates a forum for an important discussion about life as a carer of an ASD adult. Occassionally an expert in the field is invited to the group to create a counterpoint to our personal experience.
For now I am reaching out to see how many of you Neuro-typicals are going to join me in this first of a kind group for those who love and care for adults with Asperger Syndrome. I will not turn anyone away, but as the group matures, and the numbers grow, I may create smaller venues for the meetup, so that everyone gets a chance to tell his or her story and learn from others.
If you are on the Autism Spectrum (either formally or informally diagnosed) please do not join this meetup. However, I have plans for a couples group soon, where it would be appropriate to have "mixed" couples attend.
Once I have an idea of the numbers I will post the location for the group.
Many people have asked me to start this group. It has been a long time in coming. I do hope you will join me and others to form a community for those of us who have this unique life of being in relationship with an adult on the autism spectrum.
This group is for those of us who would like to relieve some of the isolation and inertia that surely comes with depression and anxiety related disorders. We will be out and about and active (picnics, potlucks, bowling, hiking, movie nights, coffee klatches, Bananagrams etc) with others who understand how uniquely dispiriting these problems can be. Let's make this a great year in our recovery!
This group is formed to offer and organize outings lead by the Sierra clubs of the Portland and Vancouver areas.
Members and non members alike are welcome.
Participants do not have to be Sierra Club members to go on our hikes
Socialize with other Python programming enthusiasts, check out presentations on Pythonic topics, maybe participate in a code sprint or two, possibly work on projects and provide mutual technical support.

"Content Strategy" describes the strategic approach to identifying, planning, collecting, creating, distributing and governing content. People interested in "Content Strategy" will likely be involved in the fields of communication, marketing, advertising, web design, web development, interaction design, information design, copywriting, search engine marketing, and... perhaps others...
I would like to meet other like-minded Content Strategists in the Portland area. Open to all. Focus on discussing the practice, and networking within the community.
Running Mamas is a casual but dedicated group of awesome moms who want to get out with/without the stroller and run, walk, hike, socialize, inspire one another, and make new friends!
All levels of experience are welcome! We also have a great group of pregnant mamas who inspire us all by coming out and continuing to walk throughout all stages of their pregnancy, with the goal to get back into jogging/running as soon as possible. Running Mamas is all about striving to better ourselves and each other, feeling good about our bodies, and above all else, making running fun! So whether youre new to running, or a seasoned pro, if youre looking for a great group of moms to run/walk with, we hope you check us out! And, as every runner/athlete knows, you cant help but become great friends with those you train with! So that's what Running Mamas is all about: we are a meetup group for mamas and mama's-to-be, with all levels of experience and running backgrounds, who want to have fun running and socializing together.
We encourage all members to get involved! We want members input and participation, both with suggesting runs, as well as organizing runs and meetups as you feel inspired. Plan a run at one of your favorite parks/trails in or around Portland, and/or suggest fun-runs/races to train for (3,5,and 10ks, as well as 1/2 and full marathons!). The idea is to challenge ourselves appropriately while supporting one another to get out, get in shape, and reach our goals!
Meet with local people living with depression, bipolar disorder (aka manic depression), schizo-affective and other mood disorders for discussion, information, and support.
We are an independent part of the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance. DBSA has it's own website www.dbsalliance.org. Please visit the site for more information about depression and bipolar disorder. Other independent support groups are available through that site.

THE MISSION OF THE HUMANISTS OF GREATER PORTLAND™ is to create a thriving local community that promotes and acts upon the ideals of Humanism.
"Humanism" is a democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on human and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities. It is not theistic, and it does not accept supernatural views of reality.
Meet local atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, scientific naturalists and other friends of reason for conversation and friendship! We often meet on Portland's West side but welcome people from anywhere.
This group meets socially to discuss how to live and raise a family in a society greatly influenced by religious beliefs. We have a robust love of both life and reason and we bring that sentiment to our gatherings.
Meetings are informal and social. Conversation is spirited and polite.
For those with families looking to meet other atheist/agnostic families, we recommend the CFI Secular Parenting Meetup. It's a place for secular parents to help one another with parenting issues and to connect to other parents who are raising their children without religious beliefs. It can be found here: http://meetup.com/cfi-spm/
So come out, have fun, and meet people who share your sense of better living by understanding the natural world on its own terms and without supernatural beliefs.
This group is a project of CFI Portland:
On meetup at http://meetup.com/cfi-portland and on the web at http://centerforinquiry.net/portland
Meet other local people in the Portland/Vancouver area who are interested in visiting local Museums and Art Galleries, or other related cultural events. There are lots of interesting museums of all kinds in the Portland area so let's enjoy a wide variety.
This group is for anyone who loves beagles! It is run by Cascade Beagle Rescue of Portland (CBR), Oregon whose mission is to promote the health and welfare of beagles in need. Our monthly meet ups are organized by CBR volunteers. If you would like information about beagles, are interested in volunteering, fostering or helping in other ways, just let us know! Our web site is: http://www.CascadeRescue.org/west.html. Come on out and have a great time with other beagle owners. **PLEASE, no puppy-selling or looking for breeding opportunities allowed at any of our meetups!!**
We meet on the fourth Monday of every month to discuss all things related to WordPress. Users of all skill levels are welcome to join in. This meeting is free!
This is the newly formed PDX branch of the original Atheists Etcetera group based in Indianapolis, IN. We moved here, so thought we would bring a piece of our awesome group with us.
This group is for atheists, etc. -- including agnostics, skeptics, freethinkers, secular humanists, and other non-religious individuals -- who are interested in meeting like-minded people and having engaging discussions.
Most of our events are in downtown PDX and The Pearl. Events include coffee and conversation (casual, unstructured conversation about all things religious and not), focused discussions, community service opportunities, and purely social get-togethers.
We're all excited to be a part of the fastest-growing religious group in the nation: the non-religious. Our group's main goal is to provide opportunities for non-religious people to hang out with one another. We're also interested in increasing the visibility of non-theists in our area, and supporting one another as we all face the challenges of being non-religious while living in a community, a state, and a nation where religious organizations have a great deal of influence on culture and politics.
Membership is free and open to all. If you've just joined, feel free to post a greeting, comment on a blog post, contribute to a message board discussion, or come to one of our events. Ideas for new events are very much welcome!
If you're interested in learning more about us, please explore the message board (under the "Discussions" tab above), check out the Indiana group, or visit our group blog.
Meetup with locals who are interested in practicing the science
and ideology of The Law of Attraction in an effort to attract
abundance/prosperity; getting what one desires.
Non-believer? You're not alone.
You can meet with other humanists, agnostics, freethinkers and atheists who accept a universe without the supernatural and who therefore wish to work towards improving our lives and those of others not based on afterlife rewards or punishments. This meet up is for individuals, couples, and families who wish to support each other and socialize with others holding a similar worldview.

If you love the Blues, then you've found a home. Whether it's acoustic Blues in the Delta or Piedmont style or electric blues Chicago style, this jam is for you! Come meet-up, and jam with your guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, sax, ukelele, and/or voice. All levels of playing ability are welcomed. A basic understanding of the 8 bar or 12 bar blues is all that's required.
This Meetup is for vegans, vegetarians and the veg-curious. We come from all over the greater Portland metro area, East, West, North and South. We do not promote any one political party or religious agenda, nor do we sell anything or recruit for other Meetups. Our group is open to singles, couples, and families of all kinds. We're here for fun, socializing and making new like-minded friends.
In the past, we've posted volunteer events, outdoor events, movies, concerts, plays and author readings. We've had hikes and bike rides, done garden walks, played air hockey at arcades, etc. -- often (but not always) with a veggie meal before or after for those interested. Many of us support animal rights, environmental and human rights issues. If you have other ideas, just ask James or Holly to help us plan events!
Note that our calendar has two types of postings: the tan-colored notes, which are not events and thus have no host, and the green-and-white events, that have a host and expect you to show up. More on this below, in what serves as our bylaws:
Q: What is our main purpose?
A: To join fellow vegans/vegetarians for meals, chat, fun, and anything else under the sun! Or, to be more accurate, under the rain clouds much of the year in the Pacific Northwest. We're NOT centered around political activism, so if you are the indignant type (as I once was), leave your anger at the door.
Q: How do I join?
A: Be sure to have a photo of yourself for approval. Do be aware that we reserve the right to not admit new members with inappropriate photos or nicknames.
Q: Are there dues?
A: Portland Metro Veggies has a suggested donation of $5 per year to help the Organizer keep the group running. We currently have sponsorship from Chevy Volt that hopefully can be applied towards the $144 per year Meetup website fees..
Q: Do I and/or my guest have to be a vegetarian or vegan?
A: No, but as a courtesy PLEASE ORDER VEGETARIAN when dining with us. That means no meat, including chicken and seafood. Although many of us are vegans, some of us eat eggs are dairy products. Do let the others know if you come to a potluck with a non-vegan (lacto-ovo vegetarian) dish.
Q: Who organizes this group?
A: James and Holly are the Co-Organizers as of February 2012. Active "Assistant Organizers" (event planners) are listed to the left. Just let us know if you want to be one (or want to be one again). Please remember to contact the organizer in charge of the event that you are inquiring about or me if you have general group questions. And organizers, if you post a note, make sure you let us know who posted it. Thanks!
Q: How do I become an Assistant Organizer?
A: Three requirements: meet the head Organizer(s) in person, contribute dues, and then simply ask!
Q: What's the difference between the tan and green postings on the calendar?
A: The tan ones are notes of interesting things going on in the Portland area. They are not proper events as they do not have a host, but may have the assistant organizer's name posted for more information. Please let us know if you are interesting in turning one of these into a proper event!
The green postings on the calendar are proper events with a host that you need to sign up for. Please keep your RSVP up-to-date out of courtesy to your host and other members. We take the name Meetup literally, meaning our host is a real host, and we expect to actually MEET each other at our events! It may seem obvious, but if you sign up for an event, we expect you to come and actually Meet Up with us. Don't be shy -- bring a friend if you like.
Q: Do you take attendance?
A: Yep! We take the word "Meetup" literally. So when you RSVP for events big or small, you will be marked as absent if we don't MEET you there. Take down the host's cell number and look for our group or sign to find us. I hate to do it, but repeat no-shows and those inactive for over a year may be removed from the group for this reason. The same goes for anyone here simply to recruit for another cause, or who publicly criticizes other members. :( Don't forget, this group is for fun, people.
Q: Are kids welcome at events? How about pets?
A: We welcome vegetarians and vegans of all ages! So, unless specified otherwise in the event description, kids are welcome to events at public venues that are open to minors. Some events may specify "Family Friendly" or "Adults Only." If you have any questions, ask an organizer or the event host.
If the public venue allows animals, pets are allowed as well. For events at a private residence, contact the host for more information.
Q: Why do you limit RSVP's at your events?
A: With some exceptions, we have found that smaller events are the ONLY ones conducive to getting to know each other! Many vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Portland are small. Larger groups get MUCH slower service and it is harder to split up the bill. In larger groups at restaurants, we tend to have a higher no-show and no-tip rate. Introverts can get lost in the shuffle. The list goes on. If you prefer very large events, this isn't the Meetup for you.
Now go sign up for something! :)
A group of entrepreneurs who meet regularly to stimulate the free flow of entrepreneurial ideas and share real life experience and wisdom.
Some of our events will be sponsored and some will promote specific programs.
***Ladies Only..18 and over***
One hour class unlike no other you have experienced. This is not your usual strip aerobics class. We teach genuine stripper moves and then give you a workout designed to strengthen and stretch the body parts that make these moves super sexy. We then incorporate mini "dances" that you can take home and practice. Before you know it, you will look and feel like the sexy woman you know that you are
Your body, mind and soul will love you for adding this class to your exercise routine. Be prepared to sweat, laugh and learn a few tricks that will just make you giggle and say, "Damn, I am hot!". This is for all ages, sizes and body types. We are all sexy Ladies so no negative body talk allowed.
What To Wear?
We suggest long workout pants and a sexy top. I prefer to wear a low V neck sport top or a tight fitting scoop neck tee. It's important that you can see your curves. You may be a little uncomfortable with this at first, but trust me..you will be happy you slipped on that top that shows off your cleavage. So, no baggy pants and budwieser tee's allowed!
It is very cool to experience this class in heels. I know, it sounds strange but trust me again..you will be glad you did. I have a few pair available as loaners and limited sizes for sale for only $30.00. You are welcome to bring your own heels or go barefoot.
Questions? Call me! This class is my favorite subject. 503-753-3112

Meet other locals who explore a variety of building techniques that use in-situ materials for housing: earth, clay, cob, rammed earth, earthbag, straw bale, wattle & daub, round wood, bamboo.
Join us while we do things within our comfort zone!!
Which means little to no eye-contact, loose plans are always okay (we understand how hard it is to commit to social gatherings), there will be lots of outings that involve little to no actual conversation (until we get comfortable with each other at least) and most importantly alcohol will be involved whenever possible.
I'm kidding of course. Sort of.
I'm sure there are people out there like me who want to go out and attend meet-ups but their social anxiety prevents/inhibits it. The basis of this meet up is that you shouldn't get nervous about going because everyone there is nervous about going and if everyone is nervous than we're all the same.
As far as the type of outing/activities that will be involved nothing is really set. Suggestions are encouraged... Movies, sporting events, book-clubs, coffee, drinks, social skill building activities... we'll decide as we go.
Just join already! It'll be fun! :-)

This group is a network of Portlanders that support the permaculture lifestyle. We connect in real life for farming and permaculture events to share knowledge, experiences, and resources.
We meet weekly to discuss the many projects we have going on in Portland. People meet other amazing people with survival and thrival skills galore at Bright Neighbor events. We discuss and move projects forward that help relocalize all aspects of life.
We even have a worm farm CSA!
On February 6th, 2010, Portlanders from all 95-neighborhoods will be participating in a massive fruit & nut tree pruning project, followed by grafting branches to root stocks – instantly creating thousands of new food-bearing trees in Portland.
This is a project-under-development, with a committee forming each week at the Bright Neighbor group meeting, as we have teamed up with Portland Peak Oil and Transition PDX. The project is a great neighbor building exercise, helps build local food security, and sequesters carbon right where we live – its a 3-in-1 karate kick into peak oils ugly face.
Come connect in the real world with your neighbors participating in this project by coming to the project meetings!
We are a group of women (primarily) meeting to go on day hikes within a reasonable distance of the Portland/Vancouver area. Our fitness level is intermediate and we are focused on 5 to 10 mile hikes. Many of our hikes will be on weekdays to avoid weekend crowds and also to accommodate those of us that work on weekends. Our goals are to get out in nature for fresh air, exercise, to enjoy this amazing place in which we live and to make new friends. Men and older children (please make sure the hike is appropriate for the age of the child in advance) are welcome but should be accompanied by a woman as this is a woman-centric group.
Meet other local Ballroom & Latin Dancers! This is a great place to meet other couples or singles in the Ballroom & Latin communities. If you've never danced before or are a seasoned pro there is something for everyone. Get exercise while having fun, meet other people passionate about dancing, challenge yourself!
Meet local flatwater paddlers. Trips will be centered on rivers and lakes in the Portland area ranging to the greater Northwest estuaries, rivers and lakes. Camping trips are encouraged!
It can be hard to meet other people, especially if you don't like going to a bar to get picked up. That's why I decided to start this meetup. It will be for younger couples, new or old, who want to do fun things with other couples. Couples in their 20's or 30's would probably feel the most comfortable.
We will go bowling, go to new restaurants, check out local events, maybe even take some classes. Let me know if you have a suggestion!
(Not a swingers meetup, just friends)
We're Brand New!
Jump Onboard and Let's Get This Train Rolling!
There are, no doubt, a lot of fabulous, fun adults, who would rather meet face-to-face, rather than trying to gage chemistry or the possibility of friendship via a laptop! And wouldn't it be great if those meetings happened while doing something uniquely fun, incredibly exciting, or outrageously spontaneous?
We all have a "bucket list", whether we have written it down or not, and it might be a lot of fun to knock some items off our lists together. Meeting for a happy hour and/or dancing could turn into a blast....as could flying off together for a sun-drenched few days in paradise, hopping on a bus for a night of skiing and swimming under the stars or learning to cook exotic dishes together. The options are limitless! Along the way, it would be fantastic if we could join forces to help a local non-profit agency, once-in-awhile, together.
While this group will provide a natural way for singles to meet for both friendship and dating, it is absolutely open to partnered individuals, who would enjoy the chance to get out and have some incredible fun with a great group of people. We're going places....won't you join us?!

Hello Everyone,
My name is Mark,
(I am a business owner and entrepreneur, like many of you)
Here is my SECOND revision...
I have just stepped up to replace Bret as the Organizer of this group. (I would like to thank Bret and others for starting this group and keeping it going so far)
Thank you to Tysa for agreeing to be Co-Organizer of this Meetup Group,
we are seeking more, plus assistant organizers and event hosts, please speak up.
Picking up where Bret left off, I also want to share my thoughts about social media marketing,
Here is what I have in mind ....
(Please Speak Up and share what is on YOUR Mind, this is YOUR group)
Let's use Social Media Marketing PDX to connect with each other, and learn how to market this group to Portland, to America, and the World! Most of us would like to learn how to use Social Media Marketing PDX to learn how to better market ourselves and our business. We will do that by using this group as an area to learn and practice.
We have a Facebook Fan Page for the Group!! Please check it out, LIKE IT, and feel free to post interesting resources related to social media marketing!
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Social-Media-Marketing-PDX/213300822031105
We have other desires to get more aligned with Social Media, such as:
Who can help with these?
A Blog for the group where members can share their thoughts and input...
A YouTube video blog, where we interview members and others who are "doing it"
A monthly Webinar and using technology to have meetings happen monthly "virtually"
Recording these Webinars for new members to view past meetings and existing members can catch up on any meetings they miss
Let's all learn how to contribute and do all of this "on the cheap"
Continuing with what Bret had said: as well as learn from other PDXer's who are marketing themselves through Social Media. If you are a merchant, speaker, consultant or marketer interested in hearing how others are growing their businesses and making money through social media make sure you are in attendance.
The initial list of topics that were thought to be important (I know very little about the following and I am open to hear from those of you who do)
Using Friend Feed as your social cockpit
How Google's friend connect will be the ultimate social marketing app
How brick and mortar businesses use social media to drive traffic to their locations
How coaches, speakers and consultants are turning social media connections into real dollars. (I have done this one)
(What I can tell you is that as a coach, speaker, consultant, and real estate investor, I have used the Internet, Facebook, Meetup, Google, and more, to generate over $100,000 in revenue without knowing what I was doing! This is just the beginning, I plan to make some real money now! Care to join me?)
Like Bret, I am a food enthusiast and Wine drinker. Let's plan to create some events where we mix, mingle, have food, wine and fun! Portland has many great places for this! Please suggest some. I'm hoping that these meetups are a learning experience as well as mixing in some of the things that we call fun.
The first Meetup was scheduled for Tuesday July 14, 2009,
Today is a new beginning for this group....
Who will help in choosing locations in the Portland area?
Who can help with this?
Looking forward to meeting you at the Meetup! (Both Online and in Person!)
Mark Pantak, New Group Co-Organizer

Parkour (l'art du déplacement English: the art of movement) is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment. It is a non-competitive, physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible. Skills such as jumping and climbing, or the more specific parkour moves are employed. The goal of a practitioner of parkour, called a traceur if male, or traceuse if female, is to get from one place to another using only the human body and the objects in the environment. The obstacles can be anything in one's environment, but parkour is often seen practiced in urban areas because of the many suitable public structures available such as buildings and rails.
Free running: Free running is a form of urban acrobatics in which participants, known as free runners, use the city and rural landscape to perform movements through its structures. It incorporates efficient movements from parkour, adds aesthetic vaults and other acrobatics, such as tricking and street stunts, creating an athletic and aesthetically pleasing way of moving. It is commonly practiced at gymnasiums and in urban areas that are cluttered with obstacles.

Any topic related to abilities is welcome, even if your experience was only a one time thing.

This is a place to learn and grow with one another.
The Portland MahJong Society is a group devoted to the ancient tile-game of MahJong, originally developed centuries ago in China. We are devoted to not only playing MahJong but, also reaching out to new players and giving them a fun, friendly group of people to learn the game from.
--------------------
MAHJONG SATURDAY : Backspace @ 1:00pm
This weekly game has been going on since the Society started back in August of 2008. New players often take their first steps into the MahJong world by attending this meetup. We'll go over the basics of the game with any new players and make sure they have an experienced player to sit with them and help them along until they feel comfortable enough to try it alone.
Which version of MahJong we play, really depends on the mix of people that attend. Most of the Society has learned and uses the World Series of MahJong's tournament rules. However, at the request of several members, we are focusing on transitioning from WSoM to Riichi (Japanese MahJong)
--------------------
MAHJONG IN THE GARDEN : Thursdays, Lan Su Gardens @ 1:00pm - 3pm
We have a regular game that plays in the blissful surroundings of the Portland Chinese Gardens.
May - September: Every Thursday, from 1:00pm - 5:00pm.
October - April: 1st & 3rd Thursdays, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.
--------------------
If you would like to play on a different time or day, I encourage you to use our message boards to help find other members. Post the Rules you want to play and, the day and times you are available.
The show was cancelled 10 years ago... and we don't care! It lives on in our hearts, and in our monthly public screenings. Our group is small, but mighty. Join us, won't you?

It just feels so good to feel good, yes? I am so pleased
that you have joined us in your fabulous journey of engaging your
POWERFUL MIND and that fantastic instrument - YOUR BODY - to attain
to greater and greater MIND-BODY-SPIRIT balance.
For many years I have taught mind/body classes, encouraging
people to adopt practices to assist in mind/body/spirit balance.
And, happily, many people have actually done
so.
Many of you may already have practices that
assist you in achieving mind/body/spirit balance and happiness.
I find that there is no need to teach classes
to people who are God-Beings capable of receiving your own
inspiration and healing from the Source within.
Instead, I would like to belong to an
inspired community that encourages one another to maintain balance.
I invite members of this meetup to share your expertise and your
gifts with the other members.
We have a wealth of healers and practitioners
who have achieved balance and connection with Source.
Many are already members of a tribe or
community that feeds this balanced part of us.
Mind-Body Health meetup is another place for us
to share our gifts to folks across a broad range of modalities and
disciplines.
So, whether you are coming to learn about
healing, you are seeking healing, or you would like to share
healing, you are welcome.
If you have something you would like to present, let me know.
I would be most interested in learning about
you and what you know about mind/body/spirit balance.
Blessings,
Jeanette

Hello! My name is Deborah Orandon, and I am a mental health counselor in Portland Oregon and have been working with highly sensitive clients for many years in my movement & massage practices and now also in my counseling practice. (Please visit: http://www.selfawarenesscounseling.com/ to get to know me a bit better.)
Discovering Elaine Aron's Highly Sensitive Person work ( http://www.hsperson.com/index.html ) 12 years ago, and honoring my own sensitivity, was a turning point for me in being able to move my life toward balance. And now, I feel ready and excited to share this gift by sponsoring the Highly Sensitive People of Portland, OR Meetup.
My hope is that together we can empathize, share, witness, nurture and cultivate our sensitive selves while forming connections and community. Please feel free to share your ideas for locations and types of meetups, resources for HSPs, tips and information.
For more info about being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and this meetup group please click on the "learn more about this meetup group" link below.
Do you sometimes feel self-conscious about dropping non sequiturs into conversations because no one else knows anything about what you're alluding to? Do you find that you know more than anyone needs to know about certain subjects in the realms of Philosophy, Science, History, the Social Sciences, Literature, the Arts, Current Affairs, et al? Do you enjoy taking what you know & what you've observed to try to find the connections between the disparate pieces? In other words, does a large part of you live for the world of ideas?
If the above seems to fit, you're invited to drop in and participate sometime. The simple goal of the group is to provide a place for intellectually oriented conversation - open-ended, wide-ranging, and generated by the participants. The only two expectations we have is that participants arrive prepared to 1) be open-minded & tolerant and 2) make an effort to not dominate the conversation - in fact to actively encourage comments & participation from others.
Please keep in mind that the aim of these discussions is not to relate personal experiences or anecdotes - the idea is to try to keep the conversation on a more abstract level rather than a personal one. In fact, the goal is not even to simply trade opinions – what a friend has called "duelling opinions". Rather, the point is to try to reach some kind of synthesis, or conclusion about the topic being discussed, and to attempt to reconcile, if possible, conflicting or contrasting opinions.
A Proviso: All prospective members should be aware that this group is very strongly reason & rationality based - this means the kind of rigorous, logical thinking that takes place in science & philosophy, for example - as opposed to the many other non-rational varieties of thinking & belief (mystical, spiritual, new age, pseudo-scientific, anti-scientific, etc). It's probably best to make this bias clear right from the beginning.
Please Note: The annual fee for this Meetup site is $144, so we are asking for a $1 donation each time you attend a meeting. This will take effect from January 1st and we will collect until we reach that amount, then stop for the year.
In addition, Philosophy Workshop is a separate but closely affiliated meetup group which explores philosophical problems underlying many of our Intellectual Cafe discussions: http://www.meetup.com/Philosophy-Workshop/
This group is geared towards professional internet marketers, in house SEO's, and business owners who are actively managing their own online presence.
It is not geared towards those brand new to the industry, but beginners are still always welcome. For a local group geared more towards beginners, try this one.

An open, informal, social group of people of both genders who honour, revere or worship the Goddess in any of Her guises, or for people who are just interested in Goddess Spirituality, Paganism in General, and/or Witchcraft. This Meetup group meets in person once a month, usually, sometimes extra Meetups are scheduled.
This is the original Portland Goddess Meetup that has been meeting in person once a month for 8 years. We are not in any way affiliated with the so-called "Portland Area Pagan and Witches Network," which is only a calendar, based in San Diego, and of questionable intent.

Welcome to the grass roots, people-powered, community calendar of events for the energy healing and consciousness community in Portland!
There are several important differences between this and most other Meetups. The most important difference is that ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN CREATE AND ANNOUNCE MEETUP EVENTS - completely without organizer approval.
That's right. You heard me right.EVERY SINGLE COMMUNITY MEMBER can post ANY EVENT you like on the new Community Calendar - any time you want - without any organizer approval whatsoever - And you can even announce it yourself immediately the entire community without approval as well. Here is - step by step - how to create a grass roots Meetup event the Community Calendar:1. Join the Community.2. Go to the 'Let's Meetup and...' prompt to suggest and add Meetups on the Meetup Group's home page3. Members may add Meetups by filling out the 'Let's Meetup and...' form4. Meetups added by members are turned into official Meetups immediately.5. Member-added Meetups with a date selected will appear on the Calendar6. Member-added Meetups without a date selected will appear only on the 'Upcoming' Meetups list on the Meetup Group's home page7. The member who adds the Meetup may choose to announce the Meetup to the Meetup Group's members imnediately and completely without organizer approval. Finally, the community mailing list is completely unmoderated so that ALL community members can reach the entire community! These are powerful community building tools. Please use them responsibly. This is our community. Let's nurture and care for it.

Mystical Adventure to Explore and Empower
Shamanic Sounds was created to offer assistances in your awakening, healing, and empowerment to embrace, empower, and celebrate your own authenticity and creativity together in a safe and supportive environment.
Through the use of sounds, music, movements, writing, creative expressions, drumming/shamanic journeys, and ceremonies, we discover and develop our inner gifts and awareness to share with the world.
Each month on (or about) a full moon night, we witness and explore the duality played out by the elements/attributes of the opposing astrological signs where moon (emotions, feminine, within-quality) and the sun (actions, masculine, outwardly) reside. The purpose of this is not to judge, compare, or fix your situations, but to provide assistance to support each other's life journey by creating the space to obtain his/her own answers within.
We also have seasonal ceremonies and classes/workshops to learn/work/heal/play and give thanks, emphasizing on our shadow work. Shadows may have been avoided, denied, feared, or hidden by our society and in most of our lives, but they are not our enemies. Greatest gifts and insights can be found beneath the veil of illusion. We strive to be whole, even with our imperfections, as there is no absolute perfection here in this physical dimension. All is perfect just as is, according to the mystics. We are here simply learning how to accept, appreciate, and rejoice all of who each of us is. I hope to be a catalyst to offer a key to your own transformation.
SHAMANIC SOUNDS was created by Star Gazer: Multi- dimensional sound shaman, a writer, creative expression artist, graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, and certified Voice & Sound healer. She is also a trained shawoman, ordained priestess, hypnotherapist, past life counselor, and a transformation catalyst. - offering assistances in your awakening, healing, and empowerment to embrace, empower, and celebrate your own authenticity and creativity together in a safe and supportive environment.

"A classic is classic not because it conforms to certain structural rules, or fits certain definitions (of which its author had quite probably never heard). It is classic because of a certain eternal and irrepressible freshness." Edith Wharton
We read one classic book each month and then meet at a coffee shop to discuss it. Discussions are typically on the first Sunday of the month at varying coffee shops, are casual and enhanced by questions and analysis that members bring.
Meeting attendees nominate titles for the next month's reading selection. Following the meeting, an online poll is opened and all group members can vote on the nominations.
There is a $5 annual membership fee which is due on or before attending your first meeting of the year.
See our historic reading list here.

To network businesses, find social partners, or just to let off some steam and have some fun! I have a bar and restaurant in SE Portland with great food, full bar, kid friendly that happens to have a Ping Pong Table. You should join if you are an active adult with any level of Ping Pong experience.

This is a group to discuss the issues between science and religion. All religious faiths (and atheists) are included and welcomed. Anything that deals with science and religion is fair game, such as:
-- Is there DNA evidence for evolution?
-- Were Adam and Eve real people?
-- Can Christians accept evolutionary theory?

Please only attend if you are sure that you can share your views in a respectful manner. Some people are unable and/or unwilling to discuss their views in a calm and rational way. This is for those few in our society who would like to engage other people of different religious outlooks on a intellectual level.
Guidelines and Rules
---------------------
1. Respect the moderator. Be quite when requested to do such. The moderator's main roles are to monitor the 'temperature' of the meeting to keep it from boiling over, and to also try to make sure everyone gets a chance to talk (no one person dominating the discussion).
2. Don't try to convince and convert others. Simply share your opinion. If you want to convert others, that is a noble idea, but must be done outside the meeting. Consider building a relationship as a friend first. These meetings can introduce you to potential friends of different viewpoints.

I am Italian from Milan and I have been in Portlan OR since 2005. I am always looking for new friends and I feel very confortable with people who love my country.
I know many people had a good time in Italy and many people also speak Italian, but it is hard to find a place to practice the language. So if you speak Italian, live on the West side and would like to find a place practice and find new friends, please join me.
We will also have night of Italian culture where you don't need to be able to speak Italian such as wine dinners, Italian wine tasting, cooking classes, shows etc.
I love good restaurants and good dinners, and sometimes I will invite the group to join me mainly when I have an Italian wine maker in town. This maybe fun for some of us and not for others. Please just chose the events you are confortable with.
We will have an Italian good time with some good conversation, wine and food. I look forward to meet you.
A presto,

This Meetup is about becoming a responsible dog owner and becoming the leader. We will work on teaching basic obedience, socializing, dealing with reactive dogs, fearful dogs, dominant dogs and other behavioral issues.
This Meetup is open to any dog, no matter what breed, size or age.
This is NOT a play group or off leash group.
*SAFETY* will be the FIRST priority. All dogs MUST be on a leash at all times. You must maintain a seven food distance between all dogs at all times. If you have an especially reactive dog or dominant dog, the distance may need to be greater.
Hi Everyone,
My name is Jennie. I have two beagle girls named Chloe and Lonna. I call them my beagle brats, because they really can be brats at times. But, none the less, I love them dearly and consider them a part of my family.
In order to become a successful member of our family, I have had to learn how to become their leader. Having owned dogs most of my life, I have to be honest, I never really knew what being a responsible dog owner was. Well, it was time for me to find out. When I was informed by my vet that my 8 week old puppy showed the type of behaviors that ended up having many dogs put down, I decided it was time to get serious.
I began by hiring a private trainer. After going through her lessons and having my eyes opened to a whole new world, I decided there was so much to learn. I needed to know more. So, I joined the Animal Behavior College. I took a year long extensive program that earned me a certificate as a Certified Dog Trainer.
One thing that I learned is that there are many different ways to train dogs. What I found to be most effective and that builds the best bonds between dog and owner, is a technique that uses positive motivation and reinforcement. Of course, this does not always work with every dog, but in my opinion, it should always be where you start.
Now, I want to share what I have learned with anyone and everyone that may be interested. My primary motivation has come from my girls. But, I also want to help make sure that dogs that are currently in homes with families; stay in these homes with these families.
I will also be volunteering at a local humane society. To participate in this Meetup, I would like to suggest (not required) that you bring a bad of dog food or other related item that I can deliver to a local shelter.
Don't throw away your empty ink jet, laser cartridges or cell phones. Columbia Humane Society in St Helens is currently participating in a national ink jet, laser cartridge and cell phone recycling program. CHS will receive $1.00 - $12.00 for empty cartridges and $2.50 for each digital cell phone. I would be happy to deliver these items if donated.
I hope that you will all join me in taking the lead and becoming a responsible dog owner. Lets build a bond with our best furever friend that will last a life time.

Using Dr. Reggie Ray's unique bodywork practices drawn from Tibetan yoga, as well as classical mindfulness-awareness practice, we work with posture, breath, mind and somatic awareness. From that experience, we learn that we can live in a full and undefended way. One of the unusual aspects of Dr. Ray's approach to meditation is that we can quickly begin to understand - with our minds and bodies - what it means to be completely human, in this moment.
Our gatherings are led by DharmaOcean trained meditation instructors who are familiar with the practices. We offer two different opportunities for group practice. A shorter, guided practice in the evening always starts with bodywork and then moves to a somatically grounded sitting practice. The longer morning session is for those who have a regular meditation practice and would like to dive more deeply into mindfulness/awareness sitting practice. Other possibilities during both sessions include a presentation on a topic of practice or study by the meditation instructor, group discussion and Q&A.
Want to join our group? First, check out our website, and the website for Dharma Ocean Foundation where you will find free downloadable guided meditations, talks and practice instructions. Then, once you get a sense of what we're about, write to us!
The family-friendly Portland Chapter of the Oregon Nordic Club began in 1968 to promote the values of cross country skiing. Since then, we've grown into a group of friends who telemark, hike, camp, paddle and bike on monthly outings. We love spending outdoor time together in the Northwest forests, mountains, and in-town -- year-round!
We are family friendly. A growing group of parents and kids (of all ages) meet to ski, hike and bike. In the past, we've hosted one-day x-country ski lessons and gone on overnight trips to places like Sunriver, Silver Falls, and Mt. Adams. What are you waiting for? Come join the fun!
For more information about Oregon Nordic club (ONC), visit our web site: http://www.onc.org/PDX-ONC
For a complete list of our upcoming tours and trips go to http://www.onc.org/trips/10
If you wish to sign up for an overnight trip, please read the procedures listed with the trip. RSVP does not ensure you are on a trip if a payment is required.
As GBLT people we have had unique spiritual journeys. Each of us has listened deeply to our inner wisdom, discerning our true selves.
I believe that ability to listen gives us a great start in embracing the rest of our spiritual paths. Let's meet to share stories, consider questions, and celebrate the Divine in our midst.
